Eric Trump Has a Really Lame Excuse for His Father’s Excessive Vacation Time
Eric Trump Fails Miserably in Trying to Defend His Dad’s Golf Trips to Mar-a-Lago
So, how many times has Donald Trump been on the golf course at his Mar-a-Lago resort since he was inaugurated? Up to 18 times is the answer. To say that this is excessive would be an understatement. For a man who constantly criticized President Obama for the times he went golfing, Trump is being awfully hypocritical.
According to New York Daily News, Trump took to his favorite social media platform, Twitter, to blast Obama for hitting the fairway back in October of 2014.
“Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the U.S., President Obama spent the day playing golf.”
Well, here we are in the midst of growing tensions between the US and North Korea, Russia and Syria, there are protests in the streets calling for him to release his tax returns, there is chaos in the White House, and where is Donald Trump? Yup, in the Florida sunshine in his fancy resort.
But don’t worry, apparently this is Trump’s way of making America great again. According to his son Eric an interview with the Irish Independent News, a golf cart is the perfect boardroom..
“You can sit with somebody in a golf cart where there might be cultural differences and language barriers and have a good time and build a friendship in a way that you could never do sitting across an office table from someone – and I think being able to go to Mar-a-Lago…it is my father’s Crawford, Texas.”
Uh huh. The problem is, no one seems to know what exactly Trump is doing in Mar-a-Lago, who is visiting him and how much time on the golf course is actually being used to bond with important people. As the New York Times points out, It was customary for the White House to be open and honest and tell reporters how much time a President spent playing golf. Well, Trump’s spokespeople aren’t forthcoming with that information. Transparency isn’t really Trump’s style, so it is anyone’s guess what Trump is up to.
And, given the fact that Trump won’t release visitor logs for Mar-a-Lago, no one knows who is going in or out. But, as CNN Money reports, a group called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, along with the National Security Archive and the Knight First Amendment Institute are determined to find out. They filed a lawsuit against the government last week demanding that visitor logs be released. Fingers crossed.
So far, the optics are pretty darn bad, and lame excuses about bonding doesn’t account for the fact that Trump has been at the resort almost every weekend since taking power back in January. And as the New York Times points out, apparently the POTUS has completely forgot the promise he made on the campaign trail.
“I’m going to be working for you. I’m not going to have time to play golf.”
Another promise broken. Surprise!
