Trump In-laws Sorry (They got Caught) in Deal Bush Lawyer Called ‘Corruption Plain and Simple’
More Blurred Lines in the White House as Jared Kushner’s Family Appears to be Using His Name to Profit
The Kushner name has shot to prominence how that Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, is a top adviser to Donald Trump. And, as a result, it suddenly has whole new value that is awfully tempting to exploit, especially when the family business is involved.
According to NBC News, Jared Kushner’s sister Nicole Kushner Meyer, was at an investment conference in China where she urged wealthy investors to sink big money into a New Jersey estate project run by Kushner Companies.
However, Nicole did something she should not have done: Mentioned her brother.
As The Hill reports, Meyer has come under fire and been forced to apologize for saying the following during her presentation at the conference.
“In 2008, my brother Jared Kushner joined the family company as CEO, and recently moved to Washington to join the administration.”
The New York Times reports that she also said, “[The project] means a lot to me and my entire family.”
This is being seen as Nicole using her brothers name and connections as a way to lure investors and the move has stirred up plenty of controversy. In response, CNN Money reports, Kushner Companies released a statement saying that this was not what Ms. Meyers intended and by bringing up Jared in her presentation, “[She] wanted to make clear that her brother had stepped away from the company in January and has nothing to do with this project.”
The project itself is already controversial enough because it takes advantage of the EB-5 visa program, also known as the “golden visa” program. The visa gives those who invest $500,000 or more into a US development project the opportunity to be fast tracked for green cards. Interestingly enough, the EB-5 visa program was renewed in a law passed on Friday, just hours before Meyers presented at the conference in China.
What Kushner Companies was doing in China is being described as, “…very, very close to solicitation of a bribe,” and “corruption, pure and simple” by a former ethics adviser and attorney for George W. Bush, Richard Painter. CBS News also quotes Painter as saying, “We can’t have a situation where public officials and their families are using those programs to enrich themselves.”
As The New York Times reports, 80 percent of EB-4 visas are obtained by wealthy Chinese investors who see it as an easy way to get into the US. And, ironically, what is one of Kushner’s portfolio assignments? Policies on China. And where is the Kushner family looking for big money for their real-estate development? China. Interesting, indeed.

And, Richard Painter isn’t the only one who is taking a dim view of all of these connections. Senator Dianne Feinstein called out the entire controversial visa program as “a stark conflict of interest for the Trump White House.” Then, there is an ethics watchdog group called Democracy 21 who is calling for Jared Kushner to no longer be involved in any policy making decisions in regards to China seeing as red flags appear to be popping up left, right and center when it comes to the Kushner name and financial dealings with the country.
The New York Times sums up the shadiness of the past few days quite well:
“The sequence of events offers one of the most explicit examples to date of the peril of the Trump and Kushner families maintaining close ties to their business interests and creates an impression they stand to profit off Mr. Trump’s presence in the White House.”
