Trump Tightening Worker Visas, Except Ones That Affect His Businesses

HELP WANTED: Immigrants For Cheap Labor, US Citizens Need Not Apply – Ask For Donald Trump

Trump’s ‘America First’ Policy Seems To Apply To Everyone But Him

Donald Trump seems to be very much a “Do as I say, not as I do” kind of a guy. In other words, he’s a giant hypocrite.

After declaring an ‘America First’ agenda during his inauguration speech, Trump is showing that he has zero interest in actually putting America or American workers first when it comes to hiring for his own companies.

As The Daily Beast points out, during the election campaign, Trump blasted companies like Disney that hire foreign workers when American workers are available and he promised he would enforce the hiring of Americans first.

Meanwhile, as The Washington Post reports, not long after he was elected, a vineyard he owns in Virginia was applying for foreign workers with the application being approved in January.

Trump is set to sign yet another Executive Order, this one titled “Executive Order on Protecting American Jobs and Workers by Strengthening the Integrity of Foreign Worker Visa Programs” which will target a number of different visa programs making it harder for foreigners to get jobs in the US and harder for American companies to hire from outside of the country.

In 2015, Trump told Brietbart News that current visa programs are hurting US workers.

“It legalizes job theft. It gives companies the legal right to pass over Americans, displace Americans, or directly replace Americans for good-paying middle-class jobs.”

Not so surprisingly, the executive order will not touch visas that help Trump personally bring in foreign workers for his own businesses.  The H-2A visa for seasonal agricultural workers and the H-2B visa for seasonal non-agricultural workers are heavily utilized by Trump. As Vox states, these popular temporary worker visas don’t allow the employees to be permanent residents of the US.

Trump’s vineyard has relied on seasonal foreign workers, with 19 requests for foreign workers since 2014, brought in using the H-2A visa. He has also used the H-2B visa to hire seasonal foreign workers in other businesses, including the “Winter Whitehouse” – Mar-a-Lago.

Even though 300 Americans had applied for jobs at Mar-a-Lago since 2010, Trump claims he had to use the seasonal foreign worker visa program because he couldn’t find American workers.  In fact, since 2000, Trump properties have hired 1200 foreign workers using these visas. So much for putting American workers first.

Interestingly enough, the new executive order would affect the type of visa that allowed his wife Melania into the US in the first place. That is the H-1B visa that allows foreign students going to school in the US to work for a number of months after graduation. President Obama had extended the length of time graduating students could work, but in this EO, that time would be slashed again.
