Melania Trump ‘Rickrolled’ RNC With Her Speech
Donald Trump Is Never Gonna Give You Up
Amidst the fury over Melania Trump’s apparent plagiarizing of Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech, some astute viewers have noticed another reference hidden within the text.
As though a passenger train full of D-List celebrities wearing Hitler Youth uniforms collided head-on with a bulbous mass of portly Republican politicians, America couldn’t look away from the first political convention produced by the avaricious mind behind The Apprentice.
As my Reverb Press colleague Mark Howard reported hours ago, Melania Trump’s keynote speech plagiarized a large portion of Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech at the Democratic National Convention. But astute viewers may have recognized plagiarism of a different kind. As this Twitter user points out:

That’s right. Not only did Mrs. Trump’s speechwriters blatantly steal material from Michelle Obama’s speech, they also engaged in the act of plagiarizing lines from Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. Colloquially, this is known as rickrolling.
That Melania has insisted she herself wrote the speech only makes matters worse. “I read once over it and that’s all, because I wrote it, and with as little help as possible,” she told NBC’s Matt Lauer. Yet Jason Miller, who works as Trump’s senior communications adviser, released a statement clarifying that a “team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking.”
Perhaps one of those fragments was the deceptively deep voice of America’s forgotten red-headed musical treasure. For the record, five-time Reuben eating contest winner Chris Christie doesn’t believe Melania’s speech was plagiarized. So there’s that.
“I think they’re trying to do a lot of things at one time, and I know Melania,” he said. “I think she worked very hard on that speech, and a lot of what I heard last night, sitting on the floor, sounded very much like her and the way she speaks about Donald all the time.”
