‘That’s what dictators do’ – Jimmy Kimmel nails Trump for threats to First Amendment rights
Jimmy Kimmel Rips Donald Trump For Hinting At 1st Amendment Violation
Like many days during the Republican Donald Trump administration, yesterday was an ominous one for America. The president threw a tantrum after disliking a story about him in the media and reacted by suggesting a violation of the 1st Amendment. When given the chance to back off the comment, he doubled-down. And one of the biggest thorns in Trump’s side recently, late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, took notice.
NBC News ran a story yesterday suggesting Trump wondered aloud about expanding the United States’ nuclear arsenal “tenfold” during a meeting in July. This was the same meeting that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is reported to have called the president a “moron” after it was over. The Republican reacted by taking to Twitter and essentially asking whether it was time to shut NBC News down.
But he didn’t stop there. When asked later about the events of the morning, Donald Trump took another shot at press freedom. He stated:
It’s frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write.
Like many others in the media, Jimmy Kimmel was not amused by the threat from the Snowflake-in-Chief. The comedian started by mentioning a story about Trump reportedly saying he hated everyone in the White House and the administration having to put out a ridiculous statement announcing “the President’s mood is good”. Then Kimmel got to the attack on NBC and the media (full video below):
[Trump] wrote: “With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!”
Never! I don’t know, because that’s what dictators do. Never is it appropriate to challenge their license. This is nuts!
I say it was like the Book of Revelations. It’s like the Comic Book of Revelations. Everything Trump says is fake, is true. Everything he says is honest, is dishonest.
Kimmel ends the clip with another hilarious installment of “Drunk Donald Trump”.
The late night host helped send an arrow through the Republican effort to repeal and replace Obamacare when he related the story of his son being born with a birth defect and how that would give him a preexisting condition for the rest of his life. The emotional plea and the willingness to hit Trump the way anyone would expect a late night host to do, has helped bump Jimmy Kimmel up in the late night ratings battle.
Yesterday was another day in the circus that is the Donald Trump administration. And, luckily, we have plenty of people willing to continue using their 1st Amendment rights to point out how terrible his reign continues to be.
