After Hitting Lie Milestone, Trump Hints At Suing Truth Tellers
Donald Trump Says He Wants To Change Libel Laws, Despite Telling Mountain Of Lies As President
Republican Donald Trump recently passed a rather embarrassing milestone when it comes to dishonesty. According to the Washington Post‘s tally, the former reality star has now told his 2,000th lie since taking over the presidency. So, how did Trump decide to celebrate this nefarious achievement? By announcing he wants to crackdown on liars. Really.
Esquire noted the 2,000th lie came during Trump’s comments about the border wall and “drugs pouring into our country” from Mexico. It should come as no surprise the president continues the dishonesty surrounding undocumented immigrants considering he launched his presidential campaign doing the same.
And just a day after crossing the disgraceful mark on lying, Trump stated he wanted to change libel laws to go after liars in the media. While addressing a number of issues, he announced his intentions regarding the current rules.
We are going to take a strong look at our country’s libel laws. So that when somebody says something that is false and defamatory about someone, that person will have meaningful recourse in our courts. If somebody says something that is totally false and knowingly false, that the person that has been abused, defamed, libeled, will have meaningful recourse. Our current libel laws are a sham and a disgrace and do not represent American values or American fairness.

There is little doubt the comments from Donald Trump are a reaction to the explosive book by Michael Wolff, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. The book paints a clearer picture of the insanity inside the White House that reporters have been hearing through sources since the beginning. It also suggests the president is seen as unfit by essentially everyone around him.
The fallout from the book led to former Trump Chief Strategist Steve Bannon stepping down from his perch at Breitbart. It was apparent the relationship between Trump and Bannon was destroyed once the president released an incredibly defamatory statement after an excerpt of the book was published.

It’s not clear how Donald Trump wants to change the libel laws or if it would have applied to someone who, for instance, claimed the previous president was not born in this country. It’s also not clear if it would apply in a situation where, hypothetically speaking of course, a sitting president attacked a talk show host on Twitter because he didn’t like her.
But what is clear is Trump wants to change the laws in a way that he really loves. He wants there to be more lawsuits and he wants them to be easy to bring about. Period. It’s what he does, especially when he can run the opposition out of money.
The president wants to assault the First Amendment in a way that allows rich people like himself to never have a factual statement they don’t like printed about them. Let’s hope the “spoiled brat” doesn’t get his way.
