BEHIND BARS: ”Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli Jailed for Harassing Hillary Clinton
Scumbag Shkreli is finally getting his just desserts
Martin Shkreli is a name and face that one does not forget. He is a man who represents a lot of things wrong with the United States’s various bureaucratic systems governing health care, price gouging, and legality in general as he has been able to pull off some of the worst actions in the country, yet get away with it.
Shkreli is the founder and, up until December 2015, CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, a drug company that gained notoriety in September of 2015 for obtaining the AIDS drug Daraprim and jacking up the price from $13.50/pill to an astounding $750.00. What made the whole affair particularly damning was the lack of remorse Shkreli showed towards the decision. In an interview with “CBS This Morning” shortly after the news hit the media, Shkreli defended the price gouging by ridiculously comparing the life-saving drug to a luxury car:
“If there was a company that was selling an Aston Martin at the price of a bicycle, and we buy that company and we ask to charge Toyota prices, I don’t think that that should be a crime.”

Sadly, it was not this inhumane decision that saw Shkreli brought before a court, but an attack on Wall Street. The FBI had him arrested for reportedly pulling a ponzi scheme on Turing’s investors, reportedly costing them millions of dollars in losses, though Shkreli himself theorized that this was an attempt at getting revenge on him for the Daraprim controversy, much like how federal authorities got Al Capone for tax evasion.
For most of 2017, Shkreli has been fighting the criminal charges in court, culminating in him failing and getting officially charged in early August “on two counts of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud” as reported by Irina Ivanova of CBS’s Money Watch.
The sociopath has not given up the fight, deciding to push for a $5 million bail. Luckily, federal prosecutors had a trick up their sleeve to deny his motion and finally get him thrown in jail for good: Hillary Clinton. Clinton came to Shkreli’s attention soon after the Daraprim story gained steam when she released a tweet condemning the action and promising a better system in the event that she got elected:
Price gouging like this in the specialty drug market is outrageous. Tomorrow I’ll lay out a plan to take it on. -H https://t.co/9Z0Aw7aI6h

Of course the Pharma bro was too busy with the justice system to properly respond but, in the last few days, found the time and decided to play a disturbing “prank” on her by offering a $5000 reward to whoever could pluck a strand of hair from her head and give to him. Not only did this prompt a meeting with the Secret Service, but prosecutors decided to take advantage of the incident by moving to deny him bail due to him being a danger to the community.
The plan succeeded, and now Shkreli will be finding himself in jail until he can officially be sentenced and, hopefully, given a long prison term for his deeds.
