Breitbart Editor Admits Their Goal is the ‘full Destruction and Elimination’ of the Free Press
Breitbart Editor Calls For End Of Media
Breitbart editor Matt Boyle, known as “Breitbart’s (other) man in the White House” made a blunt admission about what he sees as the possible future of the mainstream media.
“The goal eventually is the full destruction and elimination of the entire mainstream media. We envision a day where CNN is no longer in business; we envision a day where The New York Times closes its doors. I think that day is possible, I think that we can get there.”
In normal times, Boyle’s statement could easily be dismissed. After all, he is the editor of a fringe media outlet that anyone with the ability to think critically and use Google dismisses. But these aren’t normal times.
These are Trump times.
And Steve Bannon, former editor of Breitbart, is sitting in a rather important position in Trump’s White House. Furthermore, President Trump has made his own views on the media quite clear. And Matt Boyle, the one who is openly calling for the “full destruction and elimination” of the mainstream media?
He has the ear of the White House.
Breitbart Is A Trump Mouthpiece
In fact, Boyle says that he and Trump “really hit it off” after a drippingly pro-Trump piece Boyle wrote during the campaign. By then, Boyle had been working under Bannon for several years, and those two also maintain a close relationship. During the campaign, Boyle had Trump’s cell phone number and regularly interviewed him – sometimes for as long as an hour.
The Washingtonian reported:
“When Steve Bannon took over as Trump’s campaign chief, Boyle says, ‘even more doors opened.’ In September 2016—a period when the Post, Politico, BuzzFeed, and other outlets were blacklisted by Trump’s team—Boyle accompanied Trump and top staffers aboard his private jet for an inside look at a campaign trip to an African-American church in Detroit.”
So when a Breitbart editor says, “The goal eventually is the full destruction and elimination of the entire mainstream media,” it carries a little more weight these days, even though it sounds crazy. And, of course, Boyle knows exactly who should fill the void left by that elimination.
“But when that happens,” he said, “the public still needs an information stream. And again, as much as we love Trump’s Twitter account, as much as we love the White House press releases and briefings and all that, there needs to be an independent and strong media in the United States, and that’s where we come in.”
Of course, Donald Trump would love that. After all, right wing news outlets like Breitbart and Fox are little more than propaganda arms for his failed presidency. But the public deserves much more than their hyped-up and made-up talking points. America deserves facts.
Every day, the need for a free and independent press becomes more and more apparent – and more and more endangered.
