NFL Calls Trump a Liar: The President’s Statement Is ‘Not Accurate’
The NFL Pushes Back Against Trump
The NFL has issued a statement that, without calling President Trump out by name, basically calls him a liar.
During an early-morning twitter tantrum, Trump gushed effusively over NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, claiming that Goodell would demand that all players stand for the National Anthem.
It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem-RESPECT OUR COUNTRY
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 11, 2017
This, of course, was sandwiched between Trump’s almost daily, hysterical claims that Democrats are bad and the media is fake.
In response, the NFL issued the following statement:
“Commentary this morning about the Commissioner’s position on the anthem is not accurate. As we said yesterday, there will be a discussion of these issues at the owners meeting next week. The NFL is doing the hard work of trying to move from protest to progress, working to bring people together….Players from around the league will be in New York next week to meet with owners to continue our work together.”
Brian McCarthy, spokesman for the National Football League, tried to soften the blow to Trump’s massively fragile ego by saying the statement “isn’t just about the president,” but also to address any inaccuracies regarding a letter Goodell sent out to football players on Tuesday, when he vowed to “continue the unprecedented dialogue with our players.”
But the NFL statement leaves no room for Trump to claim that the NFL is forcing its players to stand for the National Anthem. Instead, Trump is again throwing out completely false information into the Twittersphere, feeding his diminished but rabid base, with little respect to actual truth…and while he should be addressing any number of actual crises facing the nation.
This is just another daily reminder that the real “fake news” in this county is generated in the Oval Office, via Twitter, by the buffoon elected through a fluke in the electoral college.
