Trump's Lawyers Struggling to Deal With Unhinged President

REPORT: Trump’s Lawyers Struggling to Deal With Unhinged President

Trump’s Staff can’t control him

Social media has grown to become a powerful instrument of information transference and propaganda. Journalist Fareed Zakaria summarized things best when he asked comedian Bill Maher a simple question during an interview in the weeks before the 2016 election: “if you had said to somebody two years ago, this is one candidate who’s got two presidents in his family…and there’s this other guy who’s got 10 million Twitter followers, who’s going to win?

The point Zakaria was making was that having an online following has become integral to securing a victory in the contemporary political sphere, and in that regard Donald Trump has more than succeeded. However, social media, in this particular case Twitter, is a double-edged sword because its quick accessibility can lead to instantaneous, premature responses to situations that come up. Trump has demonstrated this time and time again, from calling climate change a Chinese hoax to attacking the State of Qatar for its terrorism problems.

As these types of statements can lead to a decrease in public opinion, there has always been an attempt by Trump’s staff to control him and prevent him from completely embarrassing himself. In August 2016, for example, during the general election, it was reported that they had taken away his Twitter account temporarily in order to prevent him from jeopardizing his chances of winning.

Now, however, we are getting reports that those efforts have been stopped. According to Gabriel Sherman, a writer best known for a biography on Roger Ailes, insiders associated with White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and Chief of Staff Reince Priebus have reported that the two have stopped trying to prevent Trump from tweeting nonsensical things. Like a literal petulant child, he apparently “lashes out” at any adviser that tells him to stop:

The level of humiliation this type of news has put on the country is painful. We have a literal President of the United States who is throwing temper-tantrums whenever one of his employees tries to put a stop on his Twitter activity. And keep in mind that Trump is not anywhere near adolescent age — he is the oldest POTUS at the age of 71, with a wife and five children.

As the leader of the Free World, we deserve better than this.
