‘To All White Americans’: Racist Fliers Inciting Hatred At Universities Across U.S.

Racist fliers incite hatred among college students

Racist fliers are once again inciting violence and hatred among college students. White supremacist fliers and messages have been found in several universities across the country. This time they were seen on Monday at the University of Maryland campus in College Park for the third time in just three months, with two of them outside the university’s chemistry department, according to The Washington Post. One of the fliers photographed by Osvaldo Gutierrez, a chemistry professor who is of Mexican descent, said:

“A notice to all white Americans, it is your civic duty to report any and all illegal aliens to U.S. immigrations and customs enforcement. They are criminals. America is a white nation…. Bloodandsoil.org”

The link found in the flier directed students to the website Vanguard America, whose manifesto is:

“Our America is to be a nation exclusively for the White American peoples who out of the barren hills, empty plains, and vast mountains forged the most powerful nation to ever have existed; it is logical that America must be once again built from the ground up to recapture the glory an Aryan nation deserves.”

According to the Diamondback student newspaper, there were also similar fliers seen at the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building, in the courtyard between the A.V. Williams Building and the Computer Science Instructional Center and on a dumpster outside of Symons Hall. The other flier read:

“Carry the torch of your people.”

The same messages were also found at George Washington University just a few days ago. And while it is true that incidents of hatred, discrimination and xenophobia have always existed, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has stated that the targeting of college campuses by white supremacists has reached unprecedented levels. Since September last year, 107 incidents like this one have been reported. The ADL also believes that the fliers are the result of the rhetoric of the 2016 presidential campaign, something that makes absolute sense added to the anti-immigrant campaign the White House has been working on with the ban on immigrants from six countries and the efforts to increase deportations. Unfortunately, incidents like this one stain the reputation of the country and of important Universities, which host a large number of foreign students.
