Trump’s Potential Homeland Security Head Says Peaceful Protests Must Be ‘Quelled’

David Clarke Slams Anti-Trump Protesters As ‘Radical Anarchists’

“There is no legitimate reason to protest the will of the people”, says man who supported candidate that refused to accept election outcome if he lost.

Sheriff David Clarke, a Donald Trump surrogate and the potential head of Homeland Security in the Trump Administration, tweeted Wednesday his disdain for the “radical anarchists” protesting the results of Tuesday’s presidential election. “These temper tantrums from these radical anarchists must be quelled”, he wrote. “There is no legitimate reason to protest the will of the people.”

In another tweet, Clarke stated:

“Apparently these anarchists do not respect the lawfully arrived at peaceful transition of power thru (sic) elections.”

The protesters, who have assembled peacefully to exercise their first amendment rights, may seem like an unusual target for a supposedly strict constitutionalist like Clarke. But the Milwaukee County Sheriff isn’t exactly known for his rationality—as a black male, Clarke is statistically most vulnerable to Donald Trump’s proposed Stop and Frisk policies. But the firebrand “tough on crime” sheriff has made a career out of vilifying civil protest movements like Black Lives Matter. He defends outdated and discriminatory law enforcement tactics and, indeed, has endorsed them through Trump.

That his name is being prominently floated as Trump’s potential head of Homeland Security is confirmation of what many on the traditional left/right spectrum have feared: people we once considered fringe anomalies are being eyed for top brass positions in the Trump Administration. Alexander Hamilton, in the course of arguing for Federalism, assured us that only men of supreme worth may survive the checks and balances placed, not only on presidential power, but on presidential wannabes. That system, which has survived in basic form from Washington to Obama, is dead. When a demagogue ascends to power, the country is never the same.

We’re trusting an individual who lacks the self-control required to run a Twitter account with the highest office in the world—in reality, it’s a rather grim task of attaching marionette strings to the republic’s corpse. Fuck it, let’s put on a show for that churlish crowd; one half drooling and hooting, the others silently terrified as they watch Uncle Sam, or Lady Liberty, whichever anthropomorphism you prefer, necrotically dance for her villainous supreme leader, nearly Dickensian were it not for the utter lack of anything redeeming about Donald Trump’s ugly personality. There is no such character as the serial sexual abuser with a heart of gold.
