Sources Reveal Why Comey Threw Clinton Under the Bus (VIDEO)
Former FBI Director James Comey allegedly knew that one extremely important piece of information regarding the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email was false, having been created by Russian intelligence — and he worried that if this spurious information became public, it would undermine the probe — and potentially the Justice Department itself, several officials familiar with the process told CNN.
Comey worried this would hurt his precious FBI
As a result, he publicly declared last summer that the investigation into Clinton’s emails was over — and he apparently did this on his own, without consulting then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch — while simultaneously stating that Clinton had been “extremely careless” in her handling of classified information.
And when he held a press conference about this, it was as if someone lit a match and KABOOM! the whole thing went off, sparking criticism from Democrats and Republicans, CNN reports.
But as the old cliche goes, there was method in his madness.
The documents were intercepted from Russian communications, and they alleged that Lynch assured Clinton in secret that she wouldn’t let the FBI investigate her private email server too deeply, Raw Story reports.
And what’s weird about this is that even though Comey knew the documents were false, he still worried that if they were made public, they would throw the FBI’s investigation into doubt.
Now, maybe I have Donald Trump/James Comey brain fatigue, I can’t figure out why Comey went down this twisted route.
But CNN explains it like this:
“Sources close to Comey tell CNN he felt that it didn’t matter if the information was accurate, because his big fear was that if the Russians released the information publicly, there would be no way for law enforcement and intelligence officials discredit it without burning intelligence sources and methods,” the network reports. “In at least one classified session, Comey cited that intelligence as the primary reason he took the unusual step of publicly announcing the end of the Clinton email probe.”
So he didn’t want to slap any hands, apparently.
I’m not a huge Clinton fan, but all the hoo-haa over her emails hasn’t amounted to much.
Trump, on the other hand, has diminished respect for the U.S. in the rest of the world, has damaged national security and runs the country like it’s one of his reality shows.
The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the information provided by Russian intelligence was sketchy at best. Then came the news that Comey and other FBI officials already knew early on that the information was false.
And they have gone to even greater lengths to make sure this misinformation didn’t get out.
At Capitol Hill on Thursday, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe met with members of the Senate Intelligence Committee to push back on the notion that the FBI was duped, said a source familiar with the meeting, CNN reports.
The false information not only implicated Lynch, but it also claimed there was a series of emails between former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz and an operative with the Clinton campaign suggesting Lynch would make the FBI Clinton investigation disappear.
Think of all the time that was spent investigating Clinton over her emails that may or may not have existed, and the fact that we now know Russian intelligence issued fake documents about this. Think of the election and how it might have been different if we knew this.
Now think about what else we don’t know that might be false.
Unsettling, isn’t it?
