Wolf Blitzer RIPS Sean Spicer for His ‘Insensitive’ Comments on Chemical Weapons (VIDEO)

A riled-up Wolf Blitzer took a clearly uncomfortable Sean Spicer to task on CNN Tuesday evening for his false and absurd claim that Adolf Hitler “didn’t even sink” to Syrian dictator Bashar-al-Assad’s level of using chemical weapons. Spicer apologized and said his words were “misstated, insensitive and wrong.”

Perhaps Spicer needs a new job…far, far away from politics

Reporters in the briefing room had offered up the Holocaust as an example of chemical weapons use. Spicer offered a litany of awful replies, but this one had to be among the worst:

“He brought them into the Holocaust Centers, I understand that.”ports

Did this guy even take a history class in high school or college? I have a difficult time imagining someone in such a lofty position could be this clueless. But apparently, he is.

So Blitzer fine tuned the White House press secretary a little bit, just hours after the press conference in which he made his blunder and asked Spicer why he even bothered to bring up Hitler in the first place.

“Why did you even make that comparison,” Blitzer asked.

Spicer replied contritely:

“I was obviously trying to make a point about the heinous acts that Assad had made against his own people last week using chemical weapons and gas,” he said. “And frankly I mistakenly used an inappropriate and insensitive reference to the Holocaust, for which, frankly, there is no comparison. For that, I apologize.”

Spicer’s comments were egregiously insensitive, and the veteran journalist reminded him;

“As you know, 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust, many of them with poison gas.”

And Blitzer’s parents were Holocaust survivors, which means he was understandably not ready to close this book. He persisted, asking Spicer:

“Tell us who you’re apologizing to right now. There are Holocaust survivors out there who were listening to what you said and couldn’t believe a spokesman, the press secretary for the President of the United States, would make such a statement. So just specifically, tell us who you want to apologize to.”

Spicer said his apologies were meant not only for Holocaust survivors, but for “anyone offended” by his comments. Then he tried shifting away from the comments to Trump’s action in Syria. But Blitzer was not swayed by this.

“Did you know, Sean, that there were gas chambers where the Nazis brought Jews and others?” he asked.

Spicer said yes, he knew that, and said he doesn’t want to be a “distraction from the president’s decisive action in Syria and attempts he is making to destabilize the region and root ISIS out of Syria.”

Blitzer didn’t ask why the Trump administration wants to destabilize the region, but pointed out that Spicer has a history of telling falsehoods, Raw Story notes.

“Are you worried that you have a credibility problem?” he asked.

Spicer told the CNN anchor that his comments were “misstated, insensitive and wrong” and that all he can do is ask for forgiveness. And indeed, some people, like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are requesting that Spicer be fired.

“While Jewish families across America celebrate Passover, the chief spokesman of this White House is downplaying the horror of the Holocaust,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Sean Spicer must be fired, and the President must immediately disavow his spokesman’s statements.”

Others, like Steven Goldstein, director of the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect, see Spicer as a Holocaust denier. Goldstein is also calling for him to be fired.

“Spicer’s statement is the most evil slur upon a group of people we have ever heard from a White House Press Secretary,” he said in a statement. “Sean Spicer now lacks the integrity to serve as White House Press Secretary, and President Trump must fire him at once.”

If Spicer has any shred of dignity, he should resign. Someone who can dismiss a human tragedy that took place on such an enormous scale isn’t fit to be working in such a high office that is already plagued with a multitude of scandals.

Blitzer grills Spicer in the video below.
