Oops! New Poll Hands Trump’s Fake News Trophy to His Favorite Channel
Donald Trump Wanted A Fake News Trophy, And Boy Did He Get One
President Donald Trump took to Twitter recently to propose a contest for a “fake news trophy”. It was another typical shot in his war with facts, in particular the continued exposure of his perpetual lies by outlets like CNN.
On Monday morning, he stated:
We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 27, 2017
It’s curious, to say the least, that he wouldn’t want his favorite outlet, Fox News, pitted against the others in this contest. And maybe there was a reason.
As it turns out, the conservative-leaning Rasmussen polls decided to carry out the contest. And in their polling, they went ahead and included Fox News anyhow. So, who took the trophy for fake news according to the public?
You guessed it! None other than the favorite news source for Donald Trump, Fox News. Of course. And it wasn’t even particularly close. According to Rasmussen:
…40% of all voters think Fox News should be the winner of the first annual Fake News Trophy.
CNN is in second place with 25% support, followed by MSNBC (9%), ABC (4%), CBS (3%) and NBC (2%). Six percent (6%) say the award should go to someone else, and 11% are undecided.
The poll was conducted in the two days after Trump sent his Tweet. Not surprisingly, a majority of Democrats thought Fox News deserved the trophy, while a plurality of Republicans picked CNN.
This polling comes just days after James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas was exposed trying to create an actual fake news story through the Washington Post. The group, which has received funding from the discredited and “self-dealing” Trump Foundation, was embarrassed by the real news organization while attempting to plant a fake story about alleged pedophile and Republican Senate candidate, Roy Moore.

Rasmussen has consistently been one of the most favorable polls to Trump, one even he has cited at times. His approval rating has stayed mostly over forty percent with the organization, while others have shown him mostly well below that mark.
There’s no doubt Donald Trump loves the soft coverage he tends to get from Fox News. But even some of their hosts have ripped into Trump from time to time, with Shepard Smith tending to lead that charge.
Other areas of the network, however, have been much kinder, to say the least. And to the detriment of the company’s revenue from advertisers.
The public has clearly taken notice of the heavily slanted coverage and this polling leaves no doubt about that fact. Donald Trump wanted to hand out a fake news trophy and now he’s got it. But as with so many things Trump, the facts have derailed his rhetorical insanity.
