Planned Parenthood Killings Put Pro-Life Advocates On Defense
The Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting leave the pro-life crowd scrambling to sound credible.
Domestic terrorism strikes the United States again. This time, A police officer and two civilians are dead after Robert Lewis Dear, 57, stormed into a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colo. and opened fire with a rifle. Many immediately assumed he had “pro-life” motives, but didn’t want to say so. As the story unfolded, several media outlets began to report on the mental instability of Dear, citing police had investigated him for “numerous incidents including leering and domestic violence,” and that his neighbors described him as reclusive.
White Men Are Mentally Ill; Black Men Are Violent?
American journalism has always been reluctant to call a white man a terrorist, even if actions clearly point to it. We have witnessed the protection of white violence with the Charleston Shooting, Sandy Hook, Columbine, and many more incidents of white people losing their minds. When American media learns of heinous acts committed by white men, there’s always hesitation in calling a space-a-spade, or rather a murderer a murderer. Even as we learned Dear said, “No more baby parts,” the media still participated in whitewashing, “His motives are unknown.”
Dear’s actions are no surprise − not only from a deranged human being − but a deranged human being that brought into the propaganda of radical anti-abortion groups like Center for Medial Progress and Operation Rescue. The FBI reports there’s been an uptick in attacks against abortion providers since the Center for Medical Progress released “deceptively edited” videos that accused Planned Parenthood of “selling baby parts.”
In the months since the publication of these fake videos, four arson incidents have occurred at Planned Parenthood facilities, including a firebomb at a California clinic. Emily Crockett of Vox writes:
“Reproductive rights advocates have sounded the alarm for months,” too little action.
Crockett writes that since 1977 the National Abortion Federation (NAF) has calculated there’s been “8 murders, 17 attempted murders, 42 bombings, and 186 arsons against abortion clinics and providers.”
Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz was the only candidate to condemn the actions of Dear immediately:
“We don’t know … what those motives were, but whatever they were, it’s unacceptable, and it’s horrific and wrong.”
The rest of the Republican presidential field were silent.
Praying for the loved ones of those killed, those injured & first responders who bravely got the situation under control in Colorado Springs

Pro-life Means Protecting All Life, Not Just Life In The Womb
I’m pro-life and have always been under the impression that to be pro-life is to defend all life, not just that of the unborn. However, pro-lifers on the political right continue to miss this point. However, the same political movement that swears to be defenders of life is the same group that degrades #BlackLivesMatter for protesting against police brutality, while attempting to ignore the constant violation of black people’s civil rights by police officers. They vilify black women for having the highest abortion rate in the country while disregarding matters of systematic racism, poverty, and income inequality. They shame black women for being single parents, but, of course, they dismiss the injustices in our prison system that disproportionately imprisons black males for the same crimes whites commit.
No worries white liberals; there’s plenty of shame to go around, you too have been made to feel ashamed by conservatives for the actions of Kermit Gosnell. You know, murder you had nothing to with, and condemned immediately. However, because you support a woman’s right to choose this indicates personal responsibly to Gosnell murderous acts.
When liberals identify divisive and dangerous rhetoric and try to get to the cause of violent actions, well, the backlash is, liberals have gone too far. However, when conservatives like John Nolte of Breitbart write:
Abortion is murder.
Abortion is an abomination.
Abortion is a demonic act that butchers innocent children.
Abortion is infanticide.
That kind of rhetoric, well, the conservative talking point becomes, it had no bearing on the impression of a person’s mind. The conservative utopia is “blame the killers, not the weapon,” but the reality is much deeper. Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, wrote on her Facebook:
Sorry, David Daleiden. You don’t get to create fake videos and accuse abortion providers of “barbaric atrocities against humanity” one day and act shocked when someone shoots to kill in those same facilities the next. And you, Troy Newman — using Operation Rescue to call for state-sanctioned execution of doctors who serve women — and then crying crocodile tears when someone takes that vision into their own hands. It’s America. You are free to have your speech. The language you choose matters. You are not free from the judgement of the consequences of your hate-filled rhetoric. #ColoradoSpringsShootings #DomesticTerrorism
At the end of the day, we’re all responsible for our actions. Still, it doesn’t mean our words do not have the power to persuade someone.
