BREAKING: Labor Nominee To Withdraw After Top GOP Senators Warned Trump He Wouldn’t Be Confirmed
Anywhere From Four To Twelve Republican Senators Opposed Puzder
The news is not getting any friendlier for the Trump Administration. Still reeling from the fallout that’s followed National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s sudden resignation under the cloud of scandal, the White House now has to contend with the reality that another appointee will not be fulfilling his assignment. CNN reported that Republican Senate leaders urged the President to withdraw the nomination of Labor Secretary Andrew Pudzer, warning that he will not be confirmed:
Top Senate Republicans have urged the White House to withdraw the Andrew Puzder nomination for labor secretary, a senior GOP source said, adding there are four firm Republican no votes and possibly up to 12.
Puzder needs at least 50 votes to pass with the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Mike Pence, and Republicans only hold control of 52 seats.
Reuters reports that the four confirmed Senators all sit on the committee that will hold the Pudzer hearings beginning Thursday:
The four senators – Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Tim Scott of South Carolina and Johnny Isakson of Georgia – all sit on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, which will on Thursday hold the first confirmation hearing for Puzder.
Puzder has been dogged by claims of domestic abuse in recent days. Members of the committee were shown a 1990 airing of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” where his ex-wife alleged the fast food executive was abusive towards her over the course of their marriage. She has since come to his defense.
That led to early reports from insiders that a withdrawal was possible. CBS Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett tweeted Wednesday afternoon:
News: Source very close to Labor Secretary nominee Andy Puzder tells me he expects Puzder to withdraw. "He's very tired of the abuse."

A very ironic choice of words.
And Then Puzder Withdrew…
Within the hour, major news networks confirmed the withdrawal.
