CNN’s Don Lemon Skewers Trump’s Obama ISIS Claims With The Donald’s Own Words (VIDEO)
Trump’s ISIS Ignorance
Yesterday, Trump made the outlandish claim that President Barack Obama and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton were the “founders” of the Islamic State terrorist group ISIS. But Donald just can’t keep his own positions straight. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) for us, Donald loves to share his opinions on television, and so we have actual record of what he really does believe.
After all, it’s really easy to have an opinion after the fact. It’s safe to have an opinion when your opinion doesn’t stop or start a war, save or lose lives.
The claim is outrageous, of course. But even when conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt tried to help Trump clean up his statement, saying that he understood that Trump meant that Obama “created the vacuum, he lost the peace,” Trump doubled down.
“No, I meant he’s the founder of ISIS,” Trump said. “I do. He was the most valuable player. I give him the most valuable player award. I give her, too, by the way, Hillary Clinton.”
Hewitt, again, tried to push back against Trump’s wild claims, saying that Obama is not sympathetic to ISIS at all; that, in fact, Obama hates ISIS and is “trying to kill them.”
Donald Doubles Down On ISIS Claim
And that’s when Trump opened his mouth and unloaded a stream of hypocrisy — the way he so often does.
“I don’t care. He was the founder. His, the way he got out of Iraq was that was the founding of ISIS, okay?”
But CNN host Don Lemon was having none of it. And he deftly picked apart Trump’s astoundingly stupid Iraq position to Trump’s dear, departed buddy Corey Lewandowski, who is now a CNN employee, himself. Lemon highlighted both the fact that ISIS, as a complex, global problem, cannot be pinned on one policy decision, as well as the fact that the agreement to withdraw troops was one that George W. Bush made — not Obama.
From One Don To Another…No.
I want to read this, this is from, I think you can pick any fact-check, okay? It says that Trump is pointing to the withdrawal of troops from Iraq in 2011 under Obama as a founding of ISIS but experts say that the expansion of the Islamic State after that point cannot be pinned on troop withdrawal alone, Corey, if at all. And there is the fact that George W. Bush had signed the agreement and set the date for that withdrawal. It is a massively complex problem, according to foreign policy experts at the Research Institute Program and on and people who are experts on the Middle East. It goes beyond one single policy decision about keeping or moving troops. Furthermore, Trump himself supported withdrawing troops from Iraq as early as 2007 telling our very own Wolf Blitzer on CNN in 2007 in an interview that the U.S. should declare victory and leave because I’ll tell you this country is just going to get further bogged down. Roll the tape.
And then, Lemon used Trump to smack down Trump, which is always the absolute best.
