VIDEO: Republican Lawmaker Threatens to Shoot Democrat Lawmaker Over Peaceful Protests

First Gianforte now this: Is Violence now part of GOP DNA?

Apparently the  threat of bodily harm is a path to victory for Republicans. GOP baseline voters lap it up like mother’s milk. Now, a Texas lawmaker is getting in on the tough, threatening to shoot colleagues in the Texas State Capitol.

Republican State Rep Matt Rinaldi, who got his feelings hurt because of a peaceful immigration protest on the Capitol steps, lobbed threats of calling ICE on the law abiding group and then started leveling more serious Trump-style threats against Representative Poncho Nevarez. Fellow legislator Justin Rodriguez described the Trumpy outburst to reporters:

“There was a subsequent exchange between my brother Poncho and Representative Rinaldi and there was a threat made from Rinaldi to put a bullet in one of my colleague’s heads.  That kind of threatening language he needs to be called out and held accountable for.”

Churlish behavior is the norm for our new Republican party. And scapegoating is nothing new either. Remember, Trump said he’d like to punch protesters ‘right in the face’  and then blamed their actions for his statement. Newly elected Minnesota congressman Greg Gianforte blamed his rage fueled assault on the recipient of his attack, Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs. In true fascist fashion, Matt Rinaldi took to Facebook to defend his seemingly indefensible actions:

“Today, Representative Poncho Nevarez threatened my life on the House floor after I called ICE on several illegal immigrants who held signs in the gallery which said “I am illegal and here to stay.” Several Democrats encouraged the protesters to disobey law enforcement. When I told the Democrats I called ICE, Representative Ramon Romero physically assaulted me, and other Democrats were held back by colleagues. During that time Poncho told me that he would ‘get me on the way to my car.’ He later approached me and reiterated that “I had to leave at some point, and he would get me. I made it clear that if he attempted to, in his words, ‘get me,’ I would shoot him in self defense. I am currently under DPS protection. Several of my colleagues heard the threats made and witnessed Ramon assaulting me.”

So, he ‘feared for his life’ because of the scary brown person, and his first thought was ‘shoot to kill’. Now where have we seen that before?

Being braggadocios about threatening to shoot someone isn’t as tough as it is pathetic and cowardly. Calling ICE on protesters because of signs that said “I’m Illegal and here to stay” is the political equivalent of telling on your sister because she stuck her tongue out at you. Waltzing around the Texas State Capitol with some self-righteous attitude of entitlement, acting more worthy than others may work for fall-in-line Republicans who have slipped into a cult like Trump trance. But for the intelligent people among us, you’re not only unfit to hold office, you’re also unworthy. May that mother’s milk be soured.
