John Waters Speculates on Mike Pence’s Kinky Secret: ‘He Calls Her Mommy’

Cult filmmaker John Waters sat down with Salon’s Amanda Marcotte to talk about politics, specifically about some of Mike Pence’s weirder habits.

Waters advocates the ‘terror of humor’

The legendary filmmaker started out with a few words about Donald Trump, and then jumped into whatever the hell it is that makes Pence tick.

Waters noted he is irked by people who “bitch and whine” about Trump and then threaten to leave the U.S.

“Well, who cares?” he said. “Oh, do you think Trump is going to say ‘Well then, I’m not going to be president if you’re leaving the country?’ You’re that important? Stay and fight.”

Then he turned his thoughts to Pence.

“The scary thing with Trump is that if anything does happen, [Vice President Mike] Pence is way, way worse. And his wife is way, way, way, worse than Pence,” Waters said. “And he calls her ‘Mommy.'”

Actually, Pence frequently calls his wife, Karen, “Mother.” Which is really, really creepy.

“Must mean he’s an adult baby,” Waters said, clearly amused and referring to a sexual fetish where some people are turned on by dressing and acting like babies.

“All hookers will tell you, powerful men, the first thing they want to do in bed is give it up,” he said, sharing a laugh with Marcotte.

He started to defend the adult baby community (is that really a thing?)

“I don’t begrudge…” he said, stopping in mid sentence.

Then he had a wait-a-minute moment.

“I am judging those f***ers. Sitting there with a hard-on and a baby bonnet,” he said, still laughing.

But sex jokes aside, the director of Hairspray  and the author of the new book Make Trouble, turned serious for a moment and it was time to talk politics.

“I think what we have to do is bring back the Yippies,” he said.

The Yippies became known for using comical stunts to draw attention to their views.

“Bring back terrorism of humor, to humiliate the enemy,” he said.

Marcotte referenced Abbie Hoffman, perhaps the most famous Yippie of them all, who tried to levitate the Pentagon.

Maybe it’s a good idea to see the humor in a bad situation — we’ll have plenty of time to do that over the next four years.

And Pence is a good subject, when you consider his obsession with issues affecting LGBTQ people. He chalks it up to being a Christian, but he’s been very un-Christian, especially towards transgendered people. He’s made it plain that he believes marriage equality will bring about societal collapse.

Apologies for presenting the disturbing vision of Mike Pence in diapers, but with him calling his wife “Mother,” that image unfortunately comes to mind. That, or seeing Karen in a black corset with a whip.

I’m not sure which image is more frightening. But if we bring back the terrorism of humor, perhaps we can humiliate Pence and his boss back into the sunset.

It’s time to make trouble.
