Franklin Graham Abandons GOP, Leads New Crusade: Jesus For President 2016!
While most of ‘Murica is sitting at home, wringing their hands and loading their assault weapons because of ISIS, the Reverend Franklin Graham has gotten off his holy keister and, like a modern-day frenzied Johnny Appleseed, is touring America, planting the seeds of a holy war all his own.
Say what you will about the fanatical, evangelical, dominionist extremists, but they are nothing if not stupidly tenacious.
“Evangelist” Franklin Graham has announced a tour of rallies in the capitol of almost every state. The dates coincide with the primaries in many of the cities listed on his itinerary. The intention of the tour – to encourage voters to vote for the most Christian candidates, those who hold “biblical values”, not for any candidate associated with any party. Why? If the U.S. isn’t turned into a strictly (Graham’s brand of) Christian theocracy, we’re done for. Toast. Hell in a hand basket.
Earlier this month, Franklin Graham made this statement:
“I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or Tea Party to do what is best for America. Unless more godly men and women get in this process and change this wicked system, our country is in for trouble.”
Franklin Graham, in a kind of absurd Facebook post from Dec. 30, announced his earth-shattering Decision America Tour.
Our nation is in trouble—we’ve turned our back on God. In less than one week from now, I will launch the Decision America Tour with the first stop in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 5. I’m going to the capital of every state in 2016 to hold a prayer rally for our country. I want to challenge Christians to pray, to get out and vote for candidates who support biblical values, and to get involved by running for office at all levels—school board, city council, mayor, state representative, and more. This could be the most important election in our nation’s history. America has got some decisions to make—decisions that will affect our children and our grandchildren! “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” (Psalm 33:12). Will you stand with me in your state capital?
Has anyone heard of the Seven Mountains movement? If not, educate yourself immediately. Never has there been a public movement that is such an open, to the letter accounting of Christian Reconstructionism.
Here is the accompanying video. Careful, that song at the end is kind of an ear worm:
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports another feverish Facebook post by Graham:
“God hears the prayers of his people, so I’m calling on people of faith in every state to pray fervently for America and our leaders. I want to challenge Christians across our land to boldly live out and promote biblical principles at home, in public and at the ballot box. The only hope for this country is if the people of God are willing to take a stand for truth and righteousness.”
Wait, what? Does he want Christians to vote for Jesus or a superhero? Confusing!
Franklin Graham has given several reasons for abandoning the righteous Republican party. He said on his Facebook page (again!) on Dec. 21 that the spending bill that passed Congress Dec. 18 “is an example of why I have resigned from the Republican Party and declared myself Independent.” He also said that the spending was “wasteful” and likening funding of Planned Parenthood to Nazi concentration camps.
Hey Franklin. You know who else wanted a pure Christian nation? Hitler.
“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” – Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Fox News.com elaborates on more of Franklin Graham’s gripes with the United States political system, also posted on Facebook. (Facebook is to Graham as Twitter is to Trump.)
“Seeing and hearing Planned Parenthood talk nonchalantly about selling baby parts from aborted fetuses with utter disregard for human life is reminiscent of Joseph Mengele and the Nazi concentration camps! That should’ve been all that was needed to turn off the faucet for their funding. Nothing was done to trim this 2,000 page, $1.1 trillion budget.”
Franklin Graham, who has supported GOP White House hopeful Donald Trump as well as embraced his controversial call to ban Muslims from the U.S., said he’s lost faith in the political system. Perhaps Graham IS correct about the U.S. turning it’s back on God. Anyone who endorses or supports Donald Trump couldn’t possibly be a Jesus-following Christian.
Franklin Graham, Take the plank out of your own eye.
This passage from the Bible is reportedly instructions on how to treat the alien, the stranger:
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ – Matthew 25:
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ – Matthew 25:35-40
Mull that one over a bit, Franklin, while you’re basking in the glow of hate emanating from Donald Trump.
Graham also says he is challenging Christians, including pastors, “to pray about running for office where they can have an impact. We need mayors, county commissioners, city council members, school board members who will uphold biblical values.”
Hello! Establishment Clause! No religious tests! Separation of Church and State! Perhaps Franklin Graham is correct. If this type of insidious theocratic behavior – this wicked system – is allowed to continue, our country IS in trouble.
