Bigoted Country Legend Has Demented Meltdown over NFL Protests, Twitter Tackles Him
Charlie Daniels Boasts that he’s not Watching Thursday Night NFL At The Moment…On Wednesday
Conservative reaction to the NFL sideline protest has ranged from hypocritical to irresponsible. What began the 2017 NFL season as a small demonstration rapidly losing momentum became a league-wide movement embraced by many team owners who were overly generous to President Trump’s political aspirations. Naturally, this has led to all sorts of complaints and threats to boycott the $13 Billion Industry from right-wing-leaning Americans. Across the country, many upset NFL fans — or better yet, allegedly former fans — have bragged on Facebook and Twitter about the thousands of dollars worth of tickets and apparel that they’ve burned since the league responded to being called “Sons of Bitches” by the president. One such former viewer is the country music icon Charlie Daniels.
While most of the reaction from the right has been befuddling, Daniels’ confused statement stands out amongst the most bizarre. At 7:45 PM on Wednesday (yes, Wednesday – an important detail) Night, Daniels told his over-half-million followers:
I would ordinarily be watching Thursday Night Football, but for some reason I’m not

Normally, Charlie Daniels would be watching Thursday Night Football on a Wednesday evening. Ol’ Charlie either was so excited to add his name to the list of conservatives boycotting the NFL that he actually lost track of time, or he’s so confused that he literally doesn’t know what day of the week it is. Luckily for all of us, however, users were quick to respond. The hashtag #NoThursdayNightFootballonWednesday organically sprouted and a legend was born.

That sounds about in line with other MAGA boycotts.

Daniels has Long History of Bigotry
That Daniels comes down against young men of color is no surprise. In a blog post last year, he made it clear he doesn’t even really believe racism exists:
Accept diversity, embrace diversity, cherish diversity, celebrate diversity as not just an American right, but an American duty.
To not do so is racism, bigotry, intolerant, narrow minded, mean and selfish.
Do you really believe that?
That’s almost as confusing as mixing up your days of the week.
At this point, there has been no clarification regarding Daniels’ intent for when the Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field Thursday night. Is he only boycotting Thursday Night football on Wednesdays? Will he spend his Thursday night watching Friday night high school football? We may never know.
What we do know, however, is that the NFL protest against police brutality shows no signs of slowing down.
