In Interview With Piers Morgan, Donald Trump Gives Non-Apology Apology For Promoting Racist Videos

If there is one thing racist Republican Donald Trump is good at, it’s giving subtle winks to white supremacists. Whether it’s telling them they are “very fine people” or targeting people of color with countless verbal assaults, he clearly has no problem giving them a bit of satisfaction.

Even when he is asked to apologize for his behavior, the apology is slowly pulled out of his mouth as begrudgingly as possible. Another instance of that appeared in a clip from his interview with Piers Morgan that is due to air this Sunday.

Morgan asked Trump specifically about his retweet of videos posted by a member of far right-wing British nationalist group, Britain First. The host asked the Republican if he regretted the tweets and if he would apologize for boosting such an extremist group. Trump’s answer was as reluctant as you might imagine. (Video clip below)

It was done because I am a big believer in fighting radical Islamic terror. This was a depiction of radical Islamic terror.

Morgan clarifies that the videos were unverified, which Trump admits. One of the videos was discovered to have nothing to do with Islam at all.

Piers Morgan specifically asks Donald Trump to apologize for the retweets. He doesn’t really get one.

MORGAN: Can I get an apology out of you just for the retweets…I think it would go a long way.

TRUMP: Here’s what’s fair. If you’re telling me…they’re horrible racist people, I would certainly apologize if you’d like me to do that. I know nothing about them.

MORGAN: And you would disavow yourself of people like that?

TRUMP: I don’t want to be involved with people like that. You’re telling me about these people because I know nothing about these people.

Morgan appears to accept that complete non-apology from Trump. It’s likely plenty of white supremacists probably love it as well, since it’s clear he is mostly just playing dumb here.

Accusations of racism have followed Donald Trump since the 1970s. His discriminatory feelings made headlines again this month after his now-infamous “shithole countries” comments to Republican and Democratic legislators.

So, here we are yet again. Republican Donald Trump is given the chance to make things a little better and he still fails miserably to apologize for his actions. And the only people happy with his begrudging apology are the people he should be forcefully denouncing. When will it ever end?
