Batsh*t Crazy Pat Buchanan: Teaching White Men About Slavery Is Driving Them To Suicide

Pat Buchanan Claims Teaching Slavery Is Driving White Men To Commit Suicide

The very recent rise of diversity and inclusion in our modern western society has had one very interesting side-effect: the privileged class clinging to an ethos of victimization. The truth is, with all the progress that has been made to undo white supremacy and level the playing field for all races, religious groups and gender identities, being a straight, white, Christian male still affords you a great deal of privilege in our society. White privilege doesn’t mean that a white person’s life won’t have any adversity — it just means your skin color won’t be one of them. That straightforward truism is apparent to many people — but Pat Buchanan isn’t one of them.

In an essay written for the conservative news blog Townhall, called “The Great White Hope”, Pat Buchanan opines that white men are dying at an alarming rate of alcoholic liver disease, heroin overdoses and suicide because white American men are being taught about slavery, and their old white heroes are being “blotted” out, leaving the white community in disarray.

What has changed in our culture? Everything.

The world has been turned upside-down for white children. In our schools the history books have been rewritten and old heroes blotted out, as their statues are taken down and their flags are put away.

Children are being taught that America was “discovered” by genocidal white racists, who murdered the native peoples of color, enslaved Africans to do the labor they refused to do, then went out and brutalized and colonized indigenous peoples all over the world.

Apparently, teaching white children facts about history, while allowing them to sit in the same classrooms and drink at the same water fountains as the “colored” kids has left them unable to cope with the universe, driving them to substance abuse and suicide. In short, this is nothing more than an anti-intellectual rant, cloaked in the false premise that “reverse-racism” is truly the scourge in our society.

And, in truth, it’s actually a horrific undermining of white masculinity. The idea that white men can’t compete in a world where there are more white CEO’s named John than there are women CEO’s in total, should be insulting to white men. The idea that white men can’t mentally or emotionally survive in a society where the median income for white families in America is $141,900, compared to $13,700 for Hispanic families and $11,000 for black families, should be absurd to white men.

What Buchanan needs to understand is that the history of America is rife with prejudice and violent oppression. Blacks, latinos, Asians and Arab-Americans have achieved all of their collective successes in the face of great resistance. As have women, the LGBTQ community and the disabled (which also includes white men too, Pat). We are in the process of overcoming massive societal hurdles and finding our way to happiness. If white men do believe that the absence of overwhelming prejudice is allowing other groups to surpass white men, then that needs to be a call for self-analysis and  introspection, not bemoaning other groups progress, especially when groups targeted by bigots are dealing with the mental and emotional burdens caused by discrimination.

The best phrase to summarize Pat Buchanan’s intellectually-flawed essay is, “when you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.”
