Donald Trump Called Out By Reporter
Donald Trump gave an impromptu appearance in front of the media today. Reporters, eager for access to a man who hasn’t held a press conference since July, began to ask questions about the recent attack in Berlin.
Within moments, Trump tripped up. He was unable to remember the official statement he released just yesterday.
Quick to pin the attack on terrorism, Trump stated the following yesterday:
“ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad. These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth, a mission we will carry out with all freedom-loving partners.”
Yet when asked about his statement, Trump appeared confused and baffled.
Reporter: “Your comments about the truck attack in Berlin being against Christians, do think that this might….”
Trump: “Say it again?
Reporter: “The attack in Berlin being an attack on Christians….”
Trump: “Who said that? When was that said?”
Reporter: “I believe you said it in a press release….”
Trump’s Full Statement
Indeed, that’s exactly what he said, less than a day ago. The full statement, which was called “reckless” and “anti-Muslim” reads as follows:
“Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims of today’s horrifying terror attack in Berlin. Innocent civilians were murdered in the streets as they prepared to celebrate the Christmas holiday. ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad. These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth, a mission we will carry out with all freedom-loving partners.”
The statement was issued just a few hours after the attack, before any real facts were known. And it is in line with many of his “shoot first, aim later” statements. But he often justifies these statements by stating he is proven right.
What makes this latest statement particularly startling is not that he made it, but that he didn’t even remember making it just a day later. It is, after all, a monumental charge of Christian persecution, when, of course, facts show that the majority of people killed by ISIS are other Muslims. Yet Trump immediately labeled it as a “global jihad” directed straight at the heart of Christianity…and he said that just the day before.
And one would think it memorable. However, it doesn’t seem to be so for Trump.
The moment is awkward and tense…and caught on camera for the entire world to see. Watch the video below.
