Former First Lady Michelle Obama Rips Trump On Rollback Of Healthy School Lunch Rules

The administration of Donald Trump recently announced it would rollback rules on making school lunches healthier, an initiative championed by former First Lady Michelle Obama. If you were wondering why they might want to make lunches less healthy, you’re not alone. Michelle Obama questioned the move today and, while she didn’t mention Trump by name, she didn’t really hold back with her words.

While speaking at a health conference in Washington today, Obama had this to say about the change:

We got to make sure we don’t let anybody take us back…Why don’t you want our kids to have good food at school? What is wrong with you?…

Think about why someone is OK with your kids eating crap. Why would you celebrate that?…If somebody is doing that, they don’t care about your kid.

The rules pertained to such moves as lowering the sodium levels in lunches and getting more whole grains in kids’ diets. Advocates stated 99 percent of schools were already in compliance of the rules.

The rollback was announced by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, another Trump nominee with close ties to the industry he now oversees.

It seems clear former First Lady Michelle Obama will continue her fight to get kids to eat healthier, regardless of how much the Trump administration moves to block the initiatives. Watch her comments below.
