Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Announces Plan Bound to Annoy Trump – Twitter Reacts Gleefully
Ruth Bader Ginsburg has made a glorious announcement
With Anthony Kennedy’s sketchy retirement, many citizens in the United States are worried about the potential permanent state of the future federal Supreme Court. While it is always possible for the Democratic Party and/or a Democratic President to counter this shift in power through court packing or imposing term limits on justices, the fact is both of those will take some time to be implemented.
Until then, the country will more than likely have to deal with a conservative Supreme Court. While President Trump’s current pick Brett Kavanaugh has yet to be approved, Rand Paul’s recent disclosure that he will vote for him has made the odds of him being approved significantly higher, unless other Senate Republicans, including possibly John McCain, choose to vote against him during the confirmation hearing.
Readers need not be completely despaired, though, as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has officially made an announcement on whether or not she will also join her colleague Kennedy in retiring.
Speaking to CNN on Sunday, July 29, 2018, Ginsburg thankfully revealed that she is planning on sticking it out for at least five more years until she reaches the age of 90:
“I’m now 85. My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, he stepped down when he was 90, so think I have about at least five more years.”
Having been on the Supreme Court since being appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993, Ginsburg will have served 30 years in total, assuming she retires per her own time table. Being a part of the political process since the Clinton Administration has also given Ginsburg insight to the world of U.S. politics and how power shifts constantly.
She also gave a very interesting quote regarding the future of the federal government:
“My dear spouse would say that the true symbol of the United States is not the bald eagle — it is the pendulum. And when it goes very far in one direction you can count on its swinging back.”
President Trump, who seems intent on turning the Supreme Court into a rubber stamp for the Republican party for generations to come, is probably annoyed by this news. Regardless, the Resistance on Twitter is thrilled!
