Trump Desperately Decries Obstruction of Justice ‘Witch Hunt’ As Mueller Closes In

Mueller puts Trump under investigation, and he is terrified

According to a recent report by The Washington Post published on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump is under investigation. According to unnamed officials, the special counsel overseeing the investigation on Russia’s intervention in the 2016 presidential elections, Robert S. Mueller III, is interviewing several senior intelligence officials in an investigation of Trump’s conduct.

“Five people briefed on the requests, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said that Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers’s recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week. The investigation has been cloaked in secrecy, and it is unclear how many others have been questioned by the FBI.”

Until now, the Russia probe has focused on Moscow meddling in the presidential campaign, financial links with Trump associates, as well as on any other relations between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. In fact, former FBI Director James Comey assured the U.S. President he was not personally under investigation; yet, that changed soon after Comey was fired. Now the investigation has turned the spotlight on the president himself for possible obstruction of justice.

And of course President Trump immediately resorted to using Twitter to denounce the accusation as a desperate and baseless one.

According to the Washington Post, the NSA has also declared its willingness to fully cooperate. The White House, on the other hand, has now delegated all responsibility over the Russia investigation to Trump’s personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz.

This is an important twist for the Russia investigation, which will also lead to further and wider investigations of Trump himself. As told by CNN, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee, also asked Chairman Chuck Grassley for the judiciary committee to establish its own investigation into obstruction of justice. This could be huge. The probe can not be dismissed anymore as the result of biased media. As Chris Cillizza put it

“We are now talking about the President of the United States being investigated for possibly obstructing justice in relation to a criminal probe about a foreign government meddling in our elections for the purpose of defeating his Democratic opponent.”

Trump does have a reason to be terrified.
