Obama Makes A Terrifying Point About GOP Candidates
Even after GOP candidates blatantly fail to demonstrate leadership, the GOP voters demonstrate a nightmarish lack of consequences
The low expectations of Republican voters towards their own candidates coupled with their ultra-demands and suspicion of President Barack Obama should serve as a wake-up call to liberal voters. If left to their own devices, this is a portion of the American population who’d gladly hand the reins over to a so-called leader who hasn’t a clue about leading.
This was made painfully obvious via a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.
“Donald Trump is the Republican candidate most trusted to manage the economy, deal with foreign leaders and serve as commander in chief, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll of Republicans conducted after the party’s third debate.
“And more Republicans would trust him with the nation’s nuclear weapons than most of the rest of their party’s presidential primary field.”
That’s right Donald Trump, a man who’s never had any political experience or held public office. This is someone who brags about using Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws like a “get out of jail free” card. He’s a man who has gone out of his way to crap on non-white immigrants and be a sexist blowhard. Did I mention the fact that the man has the maturity of an eight-year-old? Somehow, despite all of this, the GOP base continues to mistake name-calling and throwing diva-like tantrums on Twitter as demonstrating the qualities of an American President.
It’s a very interesting parallel to all the criticism the right has for President Barack Obama.
President Obama To GOP Candidates: Can’t Handle A CNBC Debate? Don’t Expect China Or Russia To Take You Seriously
The right loves to harp on about how Obama is an ineffective leader who can’t possibly stand toe-to-toe with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. It’s a popular talking point that GOP voters believe wholeheartedly. Just get a Republican, any Republican into the White House. Then, things will be different. A Republican president will make the world crap its collective pants!
Except…as we saw with the CNBC debate debacle, it’s the Republicans who have the tendency to crap the bed when in high-pressure situations. During the third Republican debate, GOP candidates were asked to answer some tough questions about their questionable decision-making and controversial opinions. Oh, the humanity of it all!
Being asked to own their track records on live television! After all, what presidential candidate should be asked about their controversies and political history? It’s not like that ever influences American voters. In any case, by refusing to make things easy for the Republicans and directly questioning their leadership skills, CNBC’s moderators committed some sort of great offense in the eyes of the far-right — And it caused a rather ridiculous controversy.
What’s lost in the sauce is the fact that by whining and boycotting in regard to their dissatisfaction with CNBC, the GOP candidates — and by extent, the Republican Party – have proven before the whole world there’s not a serious, qualified leader among them. Not a single one. President Obama made this very point Monday during a Democratic fundraiser in New York.
“Have you noticed that every one of these candidates say, ‘Obama’s weak. Putin’s kicking sand in his face. When I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out,'” Obama said, impersonating a refrain among Republican candidates that he’s allowed Russian President Vladimir Putin too much leeway.
“Then it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators at the debate. Let me tell you, if you can’t handle those guys, then I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you,” Obama said.”
You can see a clip of Obama’s jabs at the GOP presidential candidates below:
The GOP candidates and their supporters can go ahead and flip their tops at this poignant observation by our sitting president. It doesn’t change the fact that he’s very much on point.
