At a rally for Donald Trump in Cincinnati, Ohio last week, one of his supporters told reports that Hillary Clinton “needs to be taken out” and that “she should be in prison or shot.”
Is Hillary Clinton Safe From These Nuts?
Trump supporter Dan Bowman told the Wall Street Journal on Thursday that “I feel like Hillary needs to be taken out. If she gets in the government, I’ll do everything in my power to take her out of power.”
“If I have to be a patriot, I will,” he said, then becoming cagey about whether he threatened Clinton.
“I don’t know. Is it?” The 50-year-old contractor responded when asked if his comment is a real threat to Clinton’s life.
On Monday, CNN shared a video of the exchange.

Bowman went into more detail in an interview with the Boston Globe.
“If she’s in office, I hope we can start a coup. She should be in prison or shot. That’s how I feel about it,” he said. “We’re going to have a revolution and take them out of office if that’s what it takes. There’s going to be a lot of bloodshed.”
In previous months, Trump has suggested that since Clinton is a gun control advocate, perhaps the Secret Service agents in her detail should not be armed, and then “see what happens.”
He’s also said that “Second Amendment” people could “do” something to prevent Clinton from nominating Supreme Court justices if she’s elected president.
As we’ve seen, violence is fairly commonplace at Trump rallies, and with his racist, misogynist and homophobic remarks, the violent among his supporters have crawled out of their holes. And what’s especially worrying about this is that these people aren’t necessarily going to go away if he loses in November.
Bowman’s creepy comments demonstrate just how much some of Trump’s ardent “patriots” support the Republican presidential nominee’s delusional and incendiary rhetoric.
He appears to be a conspiracy theorist and says, among other things, that Clinton as president willimperil the future of the nation. He also claims a “global power structure” is attempting to corrupt the electoral system, thus ensuring her victory in November.
“This is not simply another four-year election,” Trump said in a speech in West Palm Beach, Florida. “This is a crossroads in the history of our civilization that will determine whether or not we the people reclaim control over our government.”
And this is the kind of rhetoric that stirs up those among his supporters who may very well be deranged. Obviously some, like Bowman, take Trump’s remarks far too seriously, and this is a frightening thought.
Trump has shattered all of the norms we take for granted when it comes to electing a president, and he hasn’t done this in a way that’s even remotely mentally healthy.
He’s given the deranged and the hateful a voice. I don’t know what the outcome will be regardless of whether he wins or loses in November.
Perhaps these people will crawl back in their holes, but I’m not hopeful about it.
