Debunking The "Obama's Accomplishments" Meme: Part 3

Debunking The “Obama’s Accomplishments” Meme: Part 3

And now, the thrilling (okay, maybe not all that thrilling) conclusion to our three-part series on debunking the right-wing’s “Obama’s Accomplishments” meme! Please be sure to read part 1 and part 2 if you haven’t already!

First President to fire an inspector general of AmeriCorps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case
False. Gerald Walpin was fired by President Obama for mishandling the AmeriCorps case and for general incompetence, not for “catching” Kevin Johnson.

First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office
False. President Obama has 34 czars, not 45. Czars act as advisors and have no official authority. Not a single czar has ever replaced an elected official. Besides that, the title of “czar” is often given by the media, not a presidential administration, and doesn’t really mean anything.

First President to surround himself with radical left wing anarchists
False. This lie refers to Bill Ayers, a former acquaintance of President Obama’s who was accused of bombings. All charges against Ayers were dropped in 1974. Since 2009, Ayers has not played any role whatsoever in the Obama administration and has not in any way been associated with him.

First President to golf more than 150 separate times in his five years in office
False. In the list of the 18 American presidents who have golfed, President Obama ranks 15th in the amount of golf played. Woodrow Wilson reportedly played more than 1,000 rounds of golf during his two terms. Also, this isn’t all that controversial to begin with; presidents and other political figures often play golf with others during meetings.

First President to hide his birth, medical, educational and travel records
False. Obama did release his birth certificate, in both short form and long form, with both documents considered authentic and official by the State of Hawaii. Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan all hid medical conditions from the public while they were in office, too. These records are not required by any government agency or official and no other American president in history has EVER been asked to produce them.

First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it
False. The Nobel committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama in 2009 “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” It was not given to him without his having earned it.

First President to go on multiple “global apology tours” and concurrent “insult our friends” tours
False. At the start of Obama’s first term, he visited several countries in the hopes of strengthening diplomatic ties and distancing himself from the Bush administration. The “global apology tour” title comes from Republicans, too, most notably 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

First President to go on over 17 lavish vacations, in addition to date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends paid for by the taxpayers
False. Every President in American history has gone on vacations and held dinner parties. It’s part of the job, actually. George W. Bush spend more than a third of his entire presidency on vacation… right-wingers didn’t seem to complain then, did they? Bush currently holds the record for most vacation time taken and most taxpayer money spent on said vacations.

First President to have personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife
False. Most of America’s First Ladies have had personal assistants. Michelle Obama has 15 staffers. Laura Bush had as many as 30-40 assistants during her time in office, as did Jacqueline Kennedy. Hillary Clinton had between 10 and 20 staffers. This isn’t some shocking new thing, folks. The First Lady often has her own issues and causes and yes, she requires a staff to help push those agendas forward, whether it’s Michelle Obama encouraging healthy lifestyles for children, or Nancy Reagan attempting to keep kids off drugs.

First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000 a year at taxpayer expense
False. This refers to former presidential body man Reggie Love, who held a salary of $102,000. His job was considerably more involved than taking care of Bo, and he absolutely was not a “dog trainer.” Bo’s real trainer, Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewicz, worked for the Obama family briefly and was never held on anytype of retainer.

First President to fly in a personal trainer from Chicago at least once a week at taxpayer expense
False. Cornell McClellan, President Obama’s personal trainer, commutes to DC on his own dime and is paid using Obama’s personal funds.

First President to repeat the Quran and tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth
False. In fact, the only links we can find regarding this so-called scandal point to right-wing websites, none of which offer any verifiable evidence to support this lie.

First President to side with a foreign nation over one of the American 50 states (Mexico vs Arizona)
False. Mexico joined the Obama administrations suit over SB1070, Arizona’s controversial immigration law that requires officers to racially profile people. It was Mexico joining the Obama administration’s lawsuit, not the other way around.

First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance because they “volunteered to go to war and knew the consequences.”

False. Politico debunked this myth years ago,  citing quotes that no one ever said and other BS. Go figure!
