For all the absurd hatred flung at Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, you’d think they’re the most reviled people in the world, let alone America. But according to a new Gallup survey, they’re actually among the most admired.
Leading the pack for her twentieth consecutive year, Hillary Clinton was named through polling to be America’s most admired woman, topping Malala Yousafzai by 8 points and Oprah and Michelle Obama by 9 points, as well as Carly Fiorina, Queen Elizabeth II, Angela Merkel … and Sarah Palin, who made it onto the list for God-knows-why.
President Barack Obama was named as the most admired man for the eighth consecutive year, topping Pope Francis and Donald Trump, who somehow tied for second-place, a solid 12 points behind the Commander In Chief. Also making the list were Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, Ben Carson, the Dalai Lama, and former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
Obama Ties For Second As “Most Admired Man” While Hillary Clinton Tops The “Most Admired Woman” Category.
President Obama has now tied with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan to take second-place in Gallup’s “Most Admired Man” roster. World War II General and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower tops that list with 12 wins; this being Obama’s last year in office, it’s doubtful he could overtake Eisenhower, but he could certainly move past Clinton and Reagan in 2016.
Hillary Clinton has dominated the “Most Admired Woman” category for several years; her twenty wins easily surpass the thirteen wins of Eleanor Roosevelt, America’s longest-serving First Lady, as well as the six wins earned by former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Progressives Make A “Most Admired” Splash.
You won’t find many progressives who view Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama as leaning heavily to the left, despite the rhetoric we hear out of conservatives, but Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are beloved figures in the progressive community, so seeing the both of them make the “most admired” lists is, for progressives like myself, an exciting thing.
But while all of the progressive figures making the list are level-headed and admired for their intellect, most of the conservatives making the list are… well… not that. Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, and George W. Bush are often mocked as being absurd, obtuse nitwits, while Ben Carson is only considered to be a right-wing lunatic when he’s awake long enough to mutter something terrifying. Carly Fiorina and Condoleezza Rice are the only two conservative figures named here who aren’t completely bat-shit crazy, and that’s only when Fiorina is having a good day.
Donald Trump Takes To Twitter In 3… 2…
Of course, this is the part where conservatives will claim this list as a major victory, despite Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — the two people conservatives absolutely hate the most — topping the lists. That, or they’ll label Gallup as a coconspirator in a radical left-wing lamestream media effort to defame “The Donald” and his racist supporters. Either way, I’m taking bets on what ridiculous anti-Obama thing Trump will say on Twitter as soon as he sees this.
