Mr. ‘Will Eliminate Gun-Free Zones’ Allows ZERO Guns On The Vast Majority Of His Properties
Speaking last May at the National Rifle Association convention, Donald Trump said he is in favor of gun rights, but security and staff at the vast majority of his hotels and golf courses had something different to say about that. Guests aren’t allowed to carry guns there, they said.
But the Trump Organization says this isn’t true.
Speaking to ABC News, a Trump Organization official said there are “no restrictions on licensed individuals carrying in our hotels of golf clubs.”
However, hotel staff and security personnel beg to differ.
“No, we don’t allow any firearms in the hotel,” said a manager at Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago.
Guns are also not allowed at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles. One golf course employee said “we don’t allow firearms on the property.” When asked if that ban also applies to those with a concealed-carry permit, he said that even “with a permit we still don’t allow firearms.”
And weapons–even for those with a concealed-carry license–are banned at the Trump International Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk in Honolulu.
“It’s a gun-free zone, even for people with a permit,” said a customer service agent. Think Progress noted that Hawaii is a “may issue” state in regards to licenses for carrying a concealed firearm, but in practice, few permits are granted.
At Trump National in Jupiter, Florida, a security worker said “no” after being asked if citizens who were licensed to carry guns could carry them on the premises. The employee was asked about exceptions for people such as off-duty cops, but the staff member directed ABC News to a supervisor, who said the hotel would not comment at all regarding guns on the property.
And according to a golf-shop worker at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County, Florida, also doesn’t allow citizens with concealed-carry licenses to carry guns on the property.
At Trump Winery, in Virginia, people are allowed to carry guns at the winery–as long as they aren’t drinking.
And even though Trump has generally supported gun control, he’s the new darling of the NRA, having earned its’ endorsement. Which means either the billionaire real estate magnate has to change his stance on gun control, or the NRA is doing something unprecedented. I think most of us know that’s unlikely.
It’s just another example of Trump saying one thing, doing another in his desperate, fawning attempt to gain the presidency at all costs. Should he become president, we can expect more of the same.
