It’s not uncommon for Republican politicians to make outrageous and grossly overstated comparisons to prove their point. Idiot-of-the-Year Sarah Palin, for instance, once compared the national debt to slavery. While it would seem difficult for another GOP member to “outstupid” Palin, South Dakota Rep. Isaac Latterell did just that when he said Planned Parenthood is “worse than ISIS.”
“Planned Parenthood Worse Than ISIS”
State Rep. Isaac Latterell took to his website on Feb. 17 to announce his belief that Planned Parenthood is worse than the terrorist organization ISIS. He starts out innocently enough, explaining how beheading is an immoral means of execution. Of course, no Republican can be expected to make sense for more than 30 seconds, and Latterell went on to say:
“Planned Parenthood abortionists in Sioux Falls are similarly beheading unborn children during dismemberment abortions[…] While we rightly take the speck out of our neighbor’s eye by holding ISIS accountable, let us be sure to take the plank out of our own eye by holding Planned Parenthood accountable.”
In his heated idiocy, Latterell is referring to the abortion procedure known as “dilation and evacuation.” He has introduced a bill that would make these types of abortions illegal, but funnily enough, it seems as if these procedures aren’t even performed in the state. RH Reality Check stated:
“No D and E procedures are performed in South Dakota. Planned Parenthood Sioux Falls, the only clinic that provides abortions in South Dakota, provides medication abortions up to nine weeks and surgical abortions up to 13 weeks’ gestation.”
Ignoring the fact that it’s insane that a state only has one facility that can perform abortions, a potentially life-saving procedure, Planned Parenthood states that people who want this type of procedure are referred to out-of-state clinics. Additionally, hospitals in the state can perform the procedure, but they don’t.
Planned Parenthood VS ISIS
It’s overly obvious what this numbskull is trying to do: rile up pro-lifers by making it seem as if a non-problem is a huge problem. Elizabeth Nash, a policy analyst at the Guttmacher Institute, had this to say:
“What this bill is really about is the inflammatory language and riling up people to be opposed to abortion. This language is pretty gruesome. It’s inflammatory. It’s designed to get the political juices flowing. It is not really about what medical practice is like.”
That’s obvious. But honestly, comparing Planned Parenthood to ISIS? The group that just simultaneously killed 21 Christians? The group that threw a man off the tallest building in a city and then stoned him to death for the belief that he was gay? The group that just burned 45 people in one town to death? The group that’s purportedly harvesting organs from dead civilians?
Planned Parenthood ISIS
Planned Parenthood is worse than them? Planned Parenthood? The group that performs 500,000 breast exams and 400,000 pap tests yearly for low-income women? The group that provides almost 4.5 million sexually transmitted infection tests and treatments each year? The group that helps prevent, not abort, 516,000 unintended pregnancies each year? The group who 97% of their services have nothing to do with abortion?
THAT Planned Parenthood? Look, we understand that saying stupid stuff that appeals to the imbeciles in your party is pretty much your bread and butter, but comparing an international terrorist group, whose sole purpose in life seems to be killing innocent individuals, to an organization that has likely saved countless women from untimely deaths?
That’s not only outrageous, it’s downright idiotic. Sorry Palin, you’re going to have to work a little harder. You now have some serious competition for your title of “Idiot of the Year.”
