White Supremacist Group’s `Pro White March’ Forces High School Prom To Move

What happens when a scheduling mishap results in both a high school prom and a white supremacist rally to happen at the same location just a few hours apart? Apparently in Georgia, it’s the prom that has to be moved.

Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia had booked their 2016 prom for April 23rd at Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Resort in Stone Mountain, a State park with a rock face upon which confederate heroes have been carved.

Meanwhile, a white supremacist group called “Rock Stone Mountain” had scheduled a Trump Rally “pro white march” for that same day. The event had 339 registered attendees as of this article being written. Another group, All Out Atlanta, plans to counter-protest the white supremacist group with an anti-racism march of their own. Local authorities are reportedly beefing up security in the park to prevent an all-out riot.

Peachtree Ridge High School Principal Jeff Matthews had sent out an email to parents earlier this month, informing them of the scheduling issue:

“As always, the safety of our students is our primary focus and we do not anticipate any issues, as the two events do not overlap in time or location. Please know that we are working closely with local law enforcement and Stone Mountain Park officials to ensure the safety and security of our students during this special school event.”

However, the school decided to move the prom on Wednesday to Westin Buckhead Atlanta, a hotel in the city of Atlanta, after a number of parents voiced their concerns regarding event safety.

Stone Mountain park has been the epicenter of local tensions for several months, after it was announced last year that a monument to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be built on the grounds. White Supremacist groups are angry due to Stone Mountain’s legacy as being the birthplace of the modern Ku Klux Klan.
