Periods For Pence Encourages Democracy In Indiana
Indiana Governor Mike Pence recently signed one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the United States into law and many people in the state are not happy about it. One woman put her anger to a hilarious use and started a Facebook page called Periods for Pence and, yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
The page encourages women to contact the governor and tell him all the graphic details of their period. Here’s just one of many hilarious posts on the page:
Irritated lady on the other end of the phone: “And can I get your name, please?”
Me: “Sure, it’s Not Pregnant Laura.”
I encourage everyone to click and make your day brighter. Or, if you would like to contact Governor Pence and share your own concerns with him, his office can be reached by phone at 317-232-4567 or by email at communications@mikepence.com. His Facebook page can be found here and his two Twitter handles are @GovPenceIN and @mike_pence. He loves to hear from people whether they are his constituents or not!
Yes, The Abortion Bill Is That Bad
The abortion bill was so restrictive that some staunchly anti-abortion supporters thought it went too far. Put succinctly by an Indiana Public Broadcasting reporter:
“Several state lawmakers. including Republicans who have authored anti-abortion legislation in the past, argued vehemently against it. They said the measure, which bans abortions performed because of a fetus’s characteristics, demeans women and lacks compassion.
“One lawmaker said it signals a return to the time of backroom abortions. Doctors urged the governor to veto the bill, warning that patients could feel pressure to lie to their doctors.”
A powerful editorial from an Indianapolis gynecologist also sums up the heinous nature of the law by saying, “Rather than protecting life, the state has only prolonged suffering.” I encourage everyone to read that but, let’s face it, she’s basing her arguments on science and experience so the Indiana extremists that passed the bill aren’t listening.
When Mike Pence isn’t busy oppressing the LGBT community with his religion or showing his religious beliefs are for hypocritical purposes only by turning away Syrian refugees, he sets his sights at oppressing the women of his state and their right to make their own health care decisions. Which begs the question: how the f*ck do these people get elected?
